Showcasing the striking photography of Paul Lakeman alongside a wide selection of re‑imagined works transformed into bold Art Deco posters, delicate watercolours and affordable wall art, the exhibition offers something for every taste. Visitors can enjoy browsing unique pieces while supporting a good cause, as profits from sales will be shared with Jersey Hospice Care.

Name: Farming After Liberation

About: Step back into the island’s rural past with a trip to Hamptonne Country Life Museum, where a compact but engaging exhibition explores the site’s remarkable Occupation story and the island’s agricultural revival after Liberation. Islanders were concerned that the unique Jersey breed of cattle was under threat due to looting and food shortages, and many felt the decimated farms would never get back to pre-war production. However, the sector not only survived but flourished. At Hamptonne, you’ll uncover the surprising tale of how resilience, determination, and community spirit helped Jersey’s farms rebound and thrive in the post-war years, offering a vivid glimpse into an essential chapter of the island’s heritage.

Name: 1781 Jersey Militia Performance

About: Step back into Jersey’s past with the 1781 Jersey Militia – Living History Group at Elizabeth Castle. This immersive experience offers a vivid glimpse into the daily life of a militia soldier and his family during the 18th century. Discover the impressive range of skills required to defend the island—from musket firing and artillery drills to tactical know‑how and maintaining the castle’s fortifications. Discipline, teamwork and constant readiness were all part of the job, especially when handling the powerful artillery that protected Jersey’s shores. As you explore, you can watch the dramatic musket fire, observe daily drills, and learn how uniforms and equipment shaped a soldier’s role. It’s a captivating way to connect with Jersey’s history in one of its most iconic settings.

About: If you’re visiting Jersey in April, The Trading Point Spring Farmer’s Market is a lovely way to experience local creators’ collections and sample delicious food. The market brings together a lively mix of local artisan stallholders, seasonal produce, handmade crafts and fresh blooms, all set within the charming countryside setting of St Lawrence. Name: JAYF Open Garden – Government House, St Saviour

About: Step inside the historic charm of Government House, the official residence of Jersey’s Lieutenant-Governors since 1822, and enjoy a rare opportunity to explore its magnificent 12‑acre grounds. Wander expansive lawns framed by rose beds, herbaceous borders and commemorative trees planted by Royal visitors, or follow the wooded valley alive with wildlife, from playful squirrels to waterfowl on the tranquil lakes filled with lilies and koi carp. Along the way you’ll spot cannons from Elizabeth Castle, lush plantings of Gunnera and Arum, and a rich mix of natural and ornamental trees including Acers, Willows, Sumachs and Conifers. Visitors can enjoy delicious Jersey cream teas for £5.50, browse the tombola, and join free nature walks, with all proceeds supporting JAYF – a charity committed to helping young people experiencing homelessness. Admission is £7.00, children under 12 go free. The gardens are open by kind permission of His Excellency Vice Admiral Sir Jerry Kyd KBE and Lady Kyd.

Name: Liberation Day Celebrations

About: Join Jersey’s annual Liberation Day celebrations, marking the historic moment on the 9th May 1945 when the island was finally freed from Nazi occupation. Just as islanders did 81 years ago, crowds will gather in Liberation Square to honour the day British troops arrived and the Union Jack was raised from the balcony of the Pomme d’Or Hotel, symbolising the end of five long years of occupation and the beginning of freedom.
